L E T T E R from Jac – Crossing Over

I have of late been diving more deeply into studying the Tao Te Ching and the Heart Sutra. The wisdom infused within these texts is a soothing balm for a frayed modern mind. In Taoism, Buddhism and Zen, there are many beautiful stories that involve rivers, and the crossing of them, used to demonstrate transition and change, evolution and overcoming. In fact Fazang, the Chinese philosopher called the Heart Sutra a ‘fast moving boat over stormy seas’. Sometimes I feel this is our lives, our body are rapidly mind directed vehicles moving through turbulence. So firstly, I want to ask, where in your life right now, might you need to throw down an anchor? Reduce the movement.

In the Heart Sutra, there is a term ‘haramita’ that means arriving at the other shore. My second question for you to ponder is, what is the ‘other shore’ you are trying to reach? Do you need to proceed faster, or slower? Have you got all you need for the journey? What might need to be thrown overboard?

With love,
