L E T T E R from Jac – Finding Strength

I don’t know about you, but my thoughts at times can be utterly awful. A doomsday riot of negativity, doubt, and fear. Mixed in with shame and nasty thoughts about myself. I still remember reading years and years ago from Ramana Maharshi, a spiritual sage, that we are not our thoughts. My mind couldn’t wrap itself around it. I mean they felt so real!!! So at first, I tried stopping all the thoughts I didn’t want. That failed miserably. Then I read David Hawkins describing that instead of trying to rid ourselves of thoughts, we can just turn down the volume, accepting they will always be there. Now, this was something I could work with.

Rather than trying to rid myself of negative thoughts, I just stopped buying into them. I just let them be. Stopped playing around with them, and lowered the volume. What a different time life became, so much more peaceful. My mind training in continues, because my mind sometimes likes to yell, insistently, and when under pressure, I forget they’re just made up and sometimes think they’re actually the real ones. But on the whole, the whole experience of life shifts dramatically when we let go of the thoughts that aren’t in alignment with how we want to experience the world.
