L E T T E R from Jac – Learning’s From A Pandemic Part 2

We have been through some stuff in our lives, Arran and I. For some it would mount up a life time of challenge, for others, our challenges would be a drop in their pond. The thing is through the last 6 weeks, when it all really hit the fan, it was in essence like ripping off a bandaid, painful but fast. Losing all our income (both of us), our home, de-enrolling our daughter from her school, losing our two adored dogs, and relocating in 5 days to another country with a couple of bags, and then two weeks government quarantine, oh and my Instagram got hacked, but we got it back; it felt insanely intense but the gift in it lies that it all happened at once. You’re in survival mode, so you have to keep moving through it. There’s literally no time to wallow for long you just swim and hard. The only place from rock bottom is up, and with it comes an incredible amount of gratitude for things that would have previously been expected. A small job, a little gig, a handful of new students, a hot meal, a bed to sleep in, friends offering accomodation.

So my key learning is that if you’re feeling that it’s all happening too fast and all at once, JUMP IN. Because you’ll be an incredibly powerful swimmer after this, and rather than have it eke out painfully, the gift lies in the avalanche. Sometimes easier to build in the stillness post avalanche than whilst sliding slowly down the hill.

Written with love,
