Thousands of years back there was a tall, verdant tree at a royal court in a faraway land. The tree was heavy with ripe, lush fruits, however, they were hard to pick as the tree was very tall. One day a well-travelled man came to this royal court. The king asked this traveller, “This tree’s branches are too high and we cannot reach the wonderful fruits. Can you think of a way to get at the fruits?”
The traveller replied, “Although this tree is very tall, there is still a way to get at its delicious fruits.” Then without hesitation, the man took an axe and felled the tree.
I enjoy coming back to this story as a reminder for me when I can feel I am rushing a project. Am I stupidly trying to fell a tree to get at the fruits right now? Can I wait for the fruits to drop on their own and pick them up? Or can I just build a ladder?
