L E T T E R from Jac – The Easter Bunny

I completely forgot about Easter, until my daughter asked me a week ago would it be cancelled. How utterly sad, the idea that a moment so important in so many little kids minds, the Easter bunny coming, could be cancelled. Given we all make Easter up as a concept, depending on what we do or don’t believe in, I find it an interesting one to work with. When we are small, the Easter bunny for a lot of us was a HUGE deal. It felt soooo real to me, so thrilling, the idea a giant animal was visiting everyone’s houses with chocolates and all the parents being very okay with this, as excited about it, as well as us eating a tonne of chocolate on one single given day. I mean, what a treat.

Then people tell us it’s not real, and we stop believing in it. Until we have kids and then we pretend again for their sake. I think we all need a little fantasy in our lives, imagination and play. We are playing along with make believe most of the time anyway, but because we deem it ‘responsible adult work’ and surround ourselves with people that feel the same way, we normalise it. What if we accepted it’s all imagination and make believe? The economy, social settings, how we must behave, be educated and achieve? What would it look like if we acknowledged it, had a little more fun, and kept a spark of madness to it?

Written with love,
