L E T T E R from Jac – Exploring Contemplative Thinking

I’ve come back across from pottering through some of our boxes The New Farmers Almanac, by Greenhorns, a completely delightful book. It’s a homage to time, to farming, to the seasons, and our connection to nature as a whole. I had forgotten how much I loved it, and promptly ordered the 2019 (2020 still pending it appears). This quote, within an article by Jason Benton, “Awe and effective contemplation erase ignorance and beget deeper thought and – most importantly – feeling, allowing for broader and more profound possibilities of experiential understanding” comes after the statement ‘I won’t let Google ruin it for me’.

Education  – which is the exact foundation of which The Broad Place is built let me note – can also take away some mystery can’t it. It must be coupled with experience. Education, knowledge, helps us through life and it’s situations. Philosophy – the very kind I hope to share in these Letters – can aid us. Yet we must also acknowledge that nothing creates wisdom, like experience coupled with awe and contemplation.

How are you going about building your personal bank of wisdom? Do you need to perhaps pause the reading, the knowing, or shift away from a teacher of yours for awhile. Stop repeating the same nuggets of teachings always repeated to you and step into the unknown. I have to admit, sometimes it can be very lonely at first, but the freedom that comes with it, the universe’s guidance, and looking to nature, is like nothing else I promise you.

Sent with love,

Jac x
