L E T T E R from Jac – The Need To Know

Our need to know all the time comes from our thinking mind, and robs us of the present moment. It’s not that we can cut off all our thinking – as a massive overthinker trust me, I tried for decades – but it’s that we can get some distance from those thoughts. The need for control. The need to always, continuously have a sense of what’s going on, even if we are making it up. Which, most of the time we are. I think COVID has taught us if nothing, that we truly have no crystal ball and have no idea what’s going on.

I teach people all the time who have come to this through a diagnosis, the death of a loved one, something seemingly catastrophic happened in their lives – and they realised they didn’t plan for this and had no idea it was coming and they see life differently now. They’re in alignment with the fact the gloves are off, the veil is lifted. Everyone else just keeps walking around pretending.

As Ram Dass says, ‘Being conscious is cutting through your own melodrama and being right here”. Let’s keep an eye on our own melodrama, our ego’s need to be the most exciting lead in our own self scripted storyline, and get back to simply living, with full acceptance we have little clue as to what’s next, and have some fun with that. To quote Pema Chodron “…we cannot be in the present moment and run our story lines at the same time!”
